Significant 30-hour Hood Wall Clock, George William, Bristol, circa 1750
A very good quality mahogany Hood Wall Clock with an arched hood, pagoda top, reeded side and columns, glazed side panels, silver dial signed George William of Bristol.
The silver dial has black Roman numerals, floral engraved spandrels, together with a Bristol street scene of men at work. An impressive 30-hour brass frame bird cage movement with dead beat escapement with platewill striking on the bell. ‘The Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World’ by G.H. Baillie records George Williams as working in Bristol 1782-1830.
