French 19th Century Gilt Brass Carriage Clock
A charming French 8-day gong striking movement carriage clock, stamped R & Co, MADE IN PARIS.
The cream enamelled dial has raised Arabic numerals and is marked Cecil Roy, 15 Sussex Place, South Kensington (19th century London theatre impresario and promoter). The bevel glazed case has a brass-hinged carrying handle and sits on brass bracket turned feet.
The noted clockmaker Richard et Cie was established in Paris in 1848, opening a branch in London under the name of Richard & Co. of 24 Cannon Street, London. A beautiful piece.
